The Hypnotherapy Society is actively involved in both setting, and monitoring, standards of training in the U.K. Its principle method of this is offering an established Course Accreditation Procedure through which training course providers may seek external validation.
The HS views hypnotherapy as an art rather than a science. In this spirit, we do not discriminate as to approach, method, or principles employed. There is scope in our accreditation procedures for accepting creativity, thoughtfulness and flair in training – and in recognising that, although accredited courses must be substantial, you do not make a good hypnotherapist by endless hours of dry lectures, form-filling and abstruse credit requirements.
If you are interested in training to become a hypnotherapist, we advise you to carefully consider what kind of training you may like, and to contact as many trainers as possible to get as much information as possible.
Other than referring to our categories of training school, below, the HS cannot assist students make a choice of training in order to preserve our impartiality.
Course Categories
Accredited Courses
Accredited Courses meet our full and rigorous criteria for professional training. They are considered by the Society to be of the highest quality and professionalism. Students on Accredited Courses are entitled to Licentiate Membership of the HS and the CPS on completion.
Approved Courses
Approved Courses are recognised as being of good quality but may not meet some of the Accreditation criteria. There are two types of Approved Course:
Category 1: Courses that are close to the Accreditation Criteria. Students on these courses may become Associates on completion with a probationary period leading to Licentiate Membership.
Category 2: Courses that are less close to the Accreditation Criteria. Students on these courses become Associates on completion.
Affiliated Courses
Some courses agree to abide by the HS Code of Ethics & Complaints Procedure but have not been reviewed or assessed by the Society. Their students may affiliate to the Society on completion and may attain professional membership by further training and individual assessment.
